Charnock Ridgeway ends the season with a hard fought 2-1 win over Born Ballers showing the team spirit, resilience and character that they lost last week against FC Spartak.
Born Ballers get off the blocks right away with a converted free kick in the first 15 minutes of the game and this was the catalyst for the match to turn into an end-to-end battle chance at either end.
In reaction to the first goal coming from the opposition, Bladen knew there was a clear difference in his team’s approach compared their last game.
“I thought we were brilliant and we needed to step it up from last game… we didn’t have the right attitude; we weren’t working together as a team.”
“I think today we did exactly opposite and it shows in result.”
Born Ballers are always known for their intensity and physicality, however Charnock already winning the first game against at home helped them grow into this match.
“It took us a little bit to get into the game… they’re a very high intensity team… we had to learn how they were playing and adapt to it.”
The adaptation was evident in the second half; Charnock was able to gain momentum in their chances while Born Ballers was the back foot.
They conceded a lot of fouls because of the pressure and one of the set pieces given away resulted in an equaliser for Charnock.
Another free kick given to Charnock proved decisive as it led to a handball in the box for a penalty and Jack Sutton, in clear form when it comes to penalties, had no doubt tucking it away.
And his man of the match performance today was crucial for the last 3 points of the season.
“Absolutely brilliant… he’s always striving to get a goal… today he’s absolutely unreal.”
With the season finally coming to an end, it’s a waiting game for Charnock that will determine their ending league position. However, this performance today gives the happy ending the team had asked for.
